Al’s Barber Shop has been a fixture in the community since 1961, the year Al Widdis opened his one-chair shop in downtown Brampton. Over the next 35 years, Al built a large and loyal customer base that spanned three generations of men.
It Began with Al
When Al Widdis retired in 1996, Rob Rutledge – a long-time customer and recent barber college graduate – took over the business. Located in McArter Lane, between Main St. N. and Diplock Lane, Al’s Barber Shop continued to serve long-time customers while attracting a younger clientele with new styles and cuts that Rob had mastered.
Enter Rob Rutledge
Under Rob Rutledge’s ownership, Al’s Barber Shop flourished and outgrew the McArter Lane shop. Rob was looking for something unique and manly in a new location and found it in a garage located behind Salon 247 at 247 Queen St. W. in Brampton. After 6 months of renovation, The Garage was reborn as the new Al’s Barber Shop – a one-of-a-kind place for the one-of-a-kind barbering experience that Rob and his staff deliver.
